Backpacks or Beach Bags: Why Come to Woman Camp Instead

I know you only have a few days a year to get away and do something for yourself. I also know that you probably dream of spending those days on the beach with a big umbrella above you and a little one in your drink. I love escaping for a few days, too… hopefully somewhere where I can wake up without an alarm and don’t have to make anyone else dinner. I can read a book without a to-do list hovering over my shoulder. I’ve done some amazing weekends exactly like this - a great hotel, a charcuterie board, a mani-pedi, a walk on the sand… and I’ve loved all of it. But this year I have a better idea for you! Just like the beach, it’s an escape from the day-in, day-out routines of life.

And it has one thing the beach doesn’t offer: a restoration that lasts way beyond your time away.

As great as it is to sit beside the water for a couple days, any sense of peace and rejuvenation disappears really fast! None of the weekends I’ve spent on the beach really changed much. Within 48 hours, the laundry piled up again, the schedule filled back in, and the same questions I was wrestling with came right back to the surface:

Should I really feel like this all the time? Am I doing the right thing with my life? Am I doing enough for my kids? Is there something more for me that I’m missing? Why am I so stressed?

A Different Kind of Invitation

That’s why we created Woman Camp—not as a replacement for fun weekends away, but as a different kind of invitation

Woman Camp isn’t a break from your life. It’s a chance to remember who you really are within it.

It’s not about getting away to escape. It’s about getting away to reconnect—with God, with your own heart, and with other women who are just as hungry for something real.

If you’re anything like most of the women I know, the more years that pass the more you’re carrying. You’re managing a home, or taking care of kids or parents, or building a career; maybe all three. You’re stretched for time, always multitasking, and often wondering when you get a moment to breathe.

You’re not just starved for time—you’re starved for life. The kind that runs deeper than work achievements, carpool lines, meal prep, and endless calendar invites. The kind of life where you’re not just doing things, but becoming someone—more free, more grounded, more alive.

Jesus issues you an invitation to that kind of life in Matthew 11:28-30:

“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.”

Woman Camp is a great place to say yes to this kind of life.

What Makes Woman Camp Different

You won’t find robes or spa water at Woman Camp. But what you will find?

You’ll find a fire pit and a circle of women who aren’t interested in small talk—they’re here for truth and transformation.

You’ll find vulnerability that doesn’t feel scary, but holy. You’ll hear real stories, not filtered ones. You’ll worship under open skies. You’ll hear God’s voice in a way that feels surprisingly personal.

And best of all? You’ll realize you’re not alone. I recently wrote a book about the five kinds of relationships that Jesus built in his own life (it’s called Blueprint for Belonging) -- and Woman Camp is a great place to find all five kinds of connection for yourself! It’s a weekend with the space to deepen a core relationship around the campfire; hang out with your circle, discover a few comrades on the same mission, join into a community of like-minded women.. And even meet complete strangers in the crowd who could change your life. There’s all kinds of connection waiting for you at camp.

We also laugh. We move our bodies. We share meals and deep conversations. I’ve been known to do some 90s rap. But we don’t stop at “how are you?”—we ask “How is your heart?” “How are your relationships?” “How is your connection with God?”

And when you’re in that kind of space, something shifts. You remember who you were before the exhaustion set in and how you like to have fun. You reconnect with the voice of God that’s been whispering beneath the noise. You realize that real freedom was always available—it just needed the space to land.

The Comfort of a Hotel Fades. This Doesn’t.

I still love hotel weekends. But let’s be honest—those robes don’t change your soul.

At Woman Camp, you trade the comfort of a king-size bed for a sleeping bag… and in doing so, you gain something a lot more lasting:

  • Real connection rooted in vulnerability

  • Freedom from the expectations and lies you’ve carried too long.

  • Joy that isn’t manufactured, but flows from healing conversations and prayers

  • Friendship that goes beyond the surface and walks with you back into real life

Maybe for the first time in a long time, you feel like yourself again.

Don’t Just Escape. Encounter.

I know you can book another beach weekend. You can scroll for flights, grab a girlfriend, and find a pool somewhere. And that’s fine—I’ve done it, and I will again.

But this time, what if you said yes to something different? What if you made a reservation for your soul, not just your body? You can be changed by a weekend. But not every kind of weekend. The ones that change you are the ones you can show up as the real you --  in a place where God is waiting to meet with you.
